Chad Boeninger has a comprehensive post at Library Voice describing how to view your MeeboMe widgets while using Pidgin (formerly GAIM), thus obviating the need to have Meebo open in a website at all. I haven’t tried Pidgin in a long time, but would LOVE not to have to have a web page open in order to receive chats via the MeeboMe widget, so I’ll be trying this one out. In the comments, Caleb points out that “you can monitor MeeboMe with any XMPP client”, which makes me think that Trillian Pro might be able to be made to talk to MeeboMe as well.

It will be interesting to see if other clients handle the automatic adding and removal of Meebo Guests as well as that Pidgin plugin does. I haven’t had any trouble yet in my setup, but it’s kind of a test case.
Caleb, there are a couple of plugins that deal with authorizing meebo guests, particularly the one that Pam Sessions created at the UNC libraries.
You might want to also take a look at http://hab.la it is a MEEBOME like widget for websites that provides a bit more functionality than meebo (i.e. the ability to have visitors click on links in the chat, and the ability to persist a chat across multiple pages when users navigate the site)
It’s free, and you can signup for a beta at: http://www.hab.la
I have set up meebome to run with my trillian pro. It connects to it no problem, but i haven’t found a way to authorize the guest that log in without doing it manually each time a user logs in.
