CUFTS Resources Comparison Tool

The CUFTS Resources Comparison Tool is a nifty little utility that allows you to compare the contents of one database to another.  Can also limit to full text resources only, which is probably what you’re really interested in comparing anyway.  The output is a simple table that first shows duplicates held by both databases, then (scroll down) titles only held in database A, then titles only held in database B.  Finally a simple tally.  For instance:
Duplicates: 730
ABI/INFORM Global only: 617
Business Source Premier only: 1619

This tool is a byproduct of a much larger product called reSearcher that I really should write more about one day.

  1. Thanks for the link, I remember this tool was on the researcher website but couldn’t locate the link.
I’ve been looking for this tool for ages…I read about it somewhere a while ago, saying it will overtake the ever so helpful Openly Jake ( http://jake.openly.com )
I remember having a play with it and thought it was a really great tool for info researchers at large.
Although the link doesn’t seem to be working today

  2. Thanks for the link to Openly JAKE, John – I had used the SFU version of JAKE (SFU are the same folks who are doing the programming for CUFTS, which incidentally doesn’t actually stand for anything, or at least anything the programmers are willing to admit), but never the Openly version. I had to find the CUFTS resouce comparison tool by looking in the archived newsletters, but I agree with you that it should be more prominent, and I’ll suggest that to Kevin, who maintains the reSearcher site.
