Libraries411 grabs your location and draws a Google or Yahoo map of the immediate area with pushpins for all the Public Libraries in the vicinity. This would be a really useful tool for distance students if it also included Academic Libraries. And what if we (librarians) could interact with it so we could also display notes about our usage policies for outside users? I think I’ll send them an email and see what it would take to implement either of these… Found via ResourceShelf by way of Science Library Pad.

what would be nice would be if it used worldcat, so you could see only the libraries that have the book you want. and if they combined that with xISBN to include alternate editions of the book, so much the better 🙂
‘Find in a Library’ shows libraries within the area you specify that have a book, at http://worldcatlibraries.org/wcpa/isbn/%5BISBN%5D such as http://worldcatlibraries.org/wcpa/isbn/0596004478 for Google Hacks. I’m not sure if this is available as a web service though…
xISBN <http://www.oclc.org/research/researchworks/xisbn/> is a web service though, showing all editions of a book. http://labs.oclc.org/xisbn/%5BISBN%5D such as http://labs.oclc.org/xisbn/0596004478
