Macromedia Breeze is a tool that, among other things, converts PowerPoint presentations to a Macromedia Flash file for easy viewing via the web. This isn’t a cheap tool (as evidenced by the "contact us for pricing" links on the product page), so it’s not likely something you’ll just go out to buy, but if your institution picks it up as a site license it’s a nice thing to have at your disposal.
Last summer Alix Hayden and I did a presentation for a Best Practices in e-Learning online conference, and we converted our PowerPoint to flash using a Qarbon product, ViewletPresenter, which is apparently no longer available. Probably for the best, as I had written in my "not ready for prime time" mini-review.
Anyhoo, that presentation has been re-converted using Breeze and is one of the presentations available in the March issue of the Best Practices in e-Learning Newsletter. This newsletter (and the conference) is sponsored by the Continuing Education department here at the U of Calgary. Weird part about this newsletter is that the archives are not available online – gotta work with Rod on that. What that means is that when the April newsletter comes out the above link won’t be pointing to our presentation any more.
